A non functioning stove is not a fun problem to have. You are ready to cook a nice meal and now your stove burner will not turn on or does not heat correctly a nice dinner is ruined. Before you call Lake Country Repair here are a few things to check and try.
Electric Stove with Coils
Are the coils plugged in all the way?
Are all the coils not working or is it just one that will not heat? If it is one, it could be partly unplugged or broken.
If all are not working, is the power to the stove on? Check the breaker box and reset the breaker if needed.
Does the coil only seem to have two settings, all on or all off? In this case you call Lake Country Repair for a replacement of the infinite switch, which connects to the dial which regulates power levels and should be replaced.
Commonly, an issue is that the stove burner will not light. This can be caused by simply not having the cap aligned correctly on the burner, or by having a build up of food particles around the burner ignitor (a ceramic nub on the side of the burner). A simple clean with an old toothbrush often can solve this problem.
Do you hear the ignitor click? If it does, in a darkened room do you see that the sparks have a reddish hue? If so, this means the ignitor is defective and needs to be replaced.
If you do not hear the ignitor click, the ignitor is defective and needs replacing. Turn off the gas right away to stop the flow of gas.
Please be careful to not keep trying, as the gas will continue to flow and will flood your stove and room causing safety concerns.
